Junior Match report – 4 June 2016

U 10’s
The morning started wet and cold with a wet and boggy ground at Endeavour Hills. The Marquins lined up receiving the ball. The Marquins scored the first 3 tries and from then on kept the game under control to take a great win. Tim played a great game running into a wall of defence, dropping and rolling, placing the ball back to set the tone for the match. Well done Tim. Austin and Joe kept the ball locked on the 5 metre line our end to result in a great try.
As parents from both teams, we peered through parkas and from under umbrellas to watch our kids have a great morning playing in mud – what more could a kid want. All parents and kids participated with a great, fun attitude.

A new additional player, Will Gibb and 4 boys from our partners Northerns enabled us to field a full side for the first time this year. The boys were in great spirits running out against Melbourne at Griff Hunt Reserve. The game started well, with 2 tries apiece Jayden and Immanuel scoring for Maroondah-Northerns. It became a tight contest, Melbourne were dominating at the breakdown and winning more balls from turnovers. Melbourne were eventual run away winners, a couple of unfavourable decisions going their way changing the rub of the green for Maroondah-Northerns. I was extremely proud of our boys being very competitive with a team who has just come down a grade to play us.

Keep on fighting boys, training is paying off and your next win is just around the corner!

Next game – 18th June 2016

Griffets Netball Results

The Griffets have won the last two weeks and enter the finals on top of the ladder with 4 games clear. We play next week at 9pm for our first final of the summer season. The girls have played really well all season and we should be proud of our efforts!! We will have a few players away over the finals, so let’s hope we can all step up to the plate and claim a back to back grand final. Last week’s and this week’s best player was Estelle Ritchie and Julianne Johnston. Well done to all the girls and thanks to Bek Mills for filling in and helping over the finals!!

Here are some photos of the girls. Thanks to some of the boys who came down to watch! The girls will have their new tops next week after having the team name printed on them! Again, thank you to Lance Cox for making this possible for us!

U12 Match report – 28 May 2016

A great wet and wintry day for rugby as the under 12 boys headed west to take on Melton. Having to kick off and defend against a much bigger side resulted in a very early try by Melton. Our boys woke up and found their feet and realised that they could put pressure on Melton and cause them to make mistakes. From then on Maroondah/ Northerns worked hard to get the ball.

A hard slog for Maroondah/Northerns, but a great game to watch, with both sides displaying excellent rugby. Melton eventual winners 7 tries to 2.

The coaches award this week, a $25 voucher from our sponsor The Local Burger Company, went to Alex Roberts for an individual piece of brilliance which saw him step the entire opposition gaining about 50 metres before being brought down.
